The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is situated on the southern shore of White Rock Lake and covers 66 acres. The park was built on to the grounds of an estate known as Rancho Encinal, which belonged to the geophysicist Everett Lee DeGolyer and his wife, Nell, who was started the garden.
