OESE: Logo
Part 1: The Font
So probably the hardest thing about creating a web site that needs brand recognition is deciding what kind of logo is needed. I rather like the elements in the original logo:
But it's a little small. The above image is the original size; it wouldn't look proportional on my site, which has a fixed width of 825 pixels. On OESE, it looks even less consistent with the rest of the page.
My plan is to keep the original elements: the title, the acronym, the molecule of adenine, and the trilobyte, but I'm going to change it around a bit. I found a font to replace the one there, now it will look like this:
I looked at similar orgainizations' websites and found that the styles ran the gamut, so I picked one kind of in between future-y sci-fi and staunchy academia. Finding a font that worked and was immediately recognizable as being roman letters is much harder than one may think, but I like this choice. Plus it saves me from creating my own font, which I suck at.
